DIY Cabbage Patch Doll Clothes

My daughter is only 11 months old, but loves her dollies already and will carry them around the house and give them kisses.  One of her dollies is a Cabbage Patch doll named Charlotte that she received for Christmas last year and this one seems to be her favorite or at least is the recipient of many slobbery open mouthed kisses from Aubree, lol.  I decided that Charlotte needed a new outfit and went out looking for Cabbage Patch doll clothes and could not find them anywhere. Since I couldn't find CP doll clothes in the stores I got the idea that maybe I should buy newborn baby clothes and they will fit - so I went out and found great deals on summer clearance clothes at Walmart and Carters and I got all of these clothes home, super excited about my cheap finds, tried them on the CP doll and they were huge!

So of course I went to google and Pinterest and found this great blog post on the Obessively Stiching blog:  http://obsessivelystitching.blogspot.ca/2009/06/baby-clothes-to-doll-clothes-tutorial.html.  She gives great instructions for turning baby clothes into doll clothes, so I pulled out some of my daughters old sleepers that I was going to throw away because they had holes in the toes from her crawling and made up a couple pair of jammies for Charlotte (blonde CP doll) and Jessie (brunette CP doll that Aubree is getting as a Birthday present next month).  I thought they turned out super cute and they were super easy to make!  I am NOT an experienced sewer, I basically can sew a straight line and that is it, so I was a little skeptical but honestly they were extrememly easy to make!

So once I made the CP dolls some jammies from Aubree's old sleepers, I started on all of the newborn clothes that I had just bought and started sewing using basically the same concept (put clothes on doll inside out, pin around doll, take clothes off doll and sew).  It was so much fun that i ended up making many outfits for the dolls and plan to make more over the next few months and they will be a Christmass present for Aubree - new wardrobes for her dollies!  I am also going to convince my husband Ryan to make doll bunk beds for her for Christmas and then I can make the dolls bedding :).

Here are a few more pictures of their new outfits! :)

At Walmart I found white bike shorts on clearance for $1.00 and I found these super cute floral dress sets that came with the dress and diaper cover bottoms for $3.00.  So for one outfit I used the dress and for another outfit I used the diaper cover bottoms.  The picture below shows how big the top was before I sewed it.

And here they are in their completed outfits!  These tops were probably the most difficult to sew - I found that just plain t shirts and bike shorts seemed to be the simplest to work with because baby t-shirts can be long sleeved shirts for CP dolls and the shorts can be pants.  The total cost of the outfit below was $2.50!

The tops below are made from diaper cover bottoms (they were a set with the floral dresses above). Total cost for outfit below was $2.50.

These outfits below were the most expensive, but I thought they were super cute!  They were $3 each.

Since Aubree is having a Monster`s Inc themed birthday party - I thought her dollies should have something Monster`s Inc. to wear!  The picture below shows bike shorts for the pants, and a boys t shirt for the top, total cost of this outfit was $2.50.

I also made the dolls Monster`s Inc pj`s from a boys Monster`s Inc. shirt - cost of MI jammies was $1.50.

You can also just take a plain white t-shirt and make it into a dress - total cost of outfit was $1.00.

Then Ì had a pair of boys shorts that came with the Monster`s Inc. shirt - so I ended up making them into sleepsacks to put over the white dresses - so total cost of this outfit was $1.75.  They kind of look like mermaids! Lol.

This was a two piece outfit from Carter`s on clearance for $3.  I made both of the outfits below so cost for each outfit was $1.50.  I also bought this in Aubree`s size so she has an outift that matches her dollies. :)

That is all that i have finished so far - but I have a few more outfits in the work - so stay tuned more! :)  They are super easy and lot`s of fun to make - let me know if you have any questions!
